Water Music (1995 Just Add Water)

Water Music (CD, Compilation) album cover

Prequel to the "I Can't Believe It's Not Water" comp posted last week. Extremely strong comp. You get some well known songs by some well known bands, you get Rev. Norb channeling Tesco Vee, and you also get some lesser known bands like the The Rehabs and the Campfire Girls/Grrrls (not to be confused with the other mid-90's major label Campfire Girls) holding their own.

I haven't listened to this in at least 15 years, and it all came back to me like it was yesterday.

  1. The Queers - I Met Her At The Rat
  2. The Campfire Girls - Alien Among Us
  3. Beatnik Termites - 9:15
  4. Nobodys - Vaseline And A Magazine
  5. Boris The Sprinkler - Goddamn Rollerbladers
  6. Slinky - American Dream
  7. Moral Crux - Single Bullet Homicide
  8. Toast - Milla
  9. Parasites - I Don't Wanna Go Out With You
  10. The Rehabs - Cynical Girl
  11. Sinkhole - Wild Stag
  12. Scooby Don't - Valentine
  13. Pink Lincolns - Fuck Madonna

I Can't Believe It's Not Water! (1996 Just Add Water)

I Can't Believe It's Not Water! album cover

God I loved/love this comp. So many good songs. Compiles so many of those great bands that, while they had their loyal fanbases, never became the flavor of the month. On this, specifically, I'm talking about Scooby Don't, The King Fools, The Phuzz, and Nothing Cool. Only thing it's missing is the Fighters! This is the CD version, which contains some bonus dongs not on the LP, including the Snotboy 77 song, which is A+.
  1. Boris The Sprinkler - Sharona Made My Head Hurt Yeah
  2. The Campfire Grrrls - Laura Is A Roit Grrrl
  3. The Beltones - Juvenile Delinquent
  4. The Crumbs - Police? Loco!
  5. Sonic Dolls - Suzee's Not At School
  6. Porcelain Boys - What A Day
  7. The Johnnies - Ba Ba Song
  8. The Automatics - Feelin' So Low
  9. The Rehabs - Get Up And Go
  10. Scooby Don't - She's So Alternative
  11. Nobodys - Temporarily Blind
  12. Jon Cougar Concentration Camp - All For One...
  13. Sinkhole - Heemsoth
  14. Kung Fools - Riot!
  15. Teen Idols - Breakin' Up
  16. The Phuzz - Rob's No Dave
  17. Pinhead Circus - Excuses
  18. The Chubbies - Beauty Products
  19. Nothing Cool - Nowhere Else
  20. Parasites - She's From Salinas

Pet UFO- Washington Ave EP (1993 Burnt Sienna Records)

Washington Avenue (Vinyl, 7", 45 RPM, Single) album cover

I used to have a couple of Pet UFO records in the 90's until my shit was stolen. I kind of forgot about them, and how good they were until recently. Souci Broskowitz is great vocalist, and I'm kind of shocked that her music career did not outlast Pet UFO. I guess writing and poetry is her thing.

Respond Compilation EP (1992 Uprising Records)

Respond Compilation (Vinyl, 7", 45 RPM, Compilation) album cover

This comp of Michigan bands encapsulates 1992 pretty well. El Smasho on the gruff side, Grout a little more screamo-y, Lovebox a little emo-y, and a little quirkiness from Lucky Pierre.
  1. El Smasho - Soupskin
  2. Grout - Conant
  3. Lovebox - Might As Well
  4. Lucky Pierre. - Hanging Tree

Martians - Exterminate EP (1996 Self Released)

Exterminate! (Vinyl, 7", 33 ⅓ RPM) album cover

I try to post stuff not available elsewhere, and sometime I get some help from people who send me stuff to post. This is one of those. Generally, when it's something I've never heard of before, my reaction is "pretty good!" But every once in a while something comes through so good that I'm generally confused how it slipped by back in the day. This is one of those. Standard punk subjects (fucking off, jocks, geeks), standard lack of chords, requisite amount of whoa-oh's. But it has that extra mysterious something we're always looking for in a great record. This is a must download. Trust me.

I know absolutely nothing about this band, and Discogs says this is the only thing they've ever done besides a comp track that is probably track 2 here. If that's true, quite a one-off effort.
  1. Fuck Off
  2. White Cheddar Popcorn
  3. Stupid Jock
  4. Believe In You

Where Did They Come From? - A Tribute To The Hard-Ons (1997 Spore! Records)

I thought I only liked a couple of Hard-Ons songs, but this comp of French bands covering the Aussie legends makes me think I should reconsider their catalog. The standout track here is the Greedy Guts cover of "Throw It In"...top-notch pop-punk, but the whole comp is solid.
  1. Greedy Guts - Throw It In
  2. SixPack - Stairway To Punchbowl
  3. Seven Hate - Where Did She Come From?
  4. Hole Process - Ache To Touch You
