Lucy's Fur Coat - Speed Queen EP (1993 Red Eye)

Lucy's Fur Coat were part of the robust early 90's San Diego scene, and belonged to the more grungy side of said scene (see Stone Temple Pilots, and don't forget Eddie Vedder cut his teeth in San Diego). They would go on to get signed by a major trying to cash in on some of that STP magic, have a bit of success, and then be forgotten everywhere but San Diego, where reunion shows sell out.

Is The New Yorker A Figment Of My Imagination?

Image result for new yorker cover

Today I saw Susan McDougal plastered all over CNN and elsewhere as breaking news. Which confused me, because Ronan Farrow at The New Yorker already reported the story, details and all, back on February 16th.

Same with Cambridge Analytica. If you read The New Yorker, you already knew all about this shady operation back (maybe not all of the gory details, but still) in a March 2017 profile of Robert Mercer.

This is not a humblebrag about how I read The New Yorker (but you should know that I totally read The New Yorker). I'm just baffled on how some of their stories seem to get no national traction until someone else reports it and takes credit.

Evolved To Obliteration - S/T EP (1995 Clean Plate)

90's hardcore from Palo Alto. Hopefully they bought some real estate back in the day. Anyways, I think 625 was supposed to put out a discography at some point. If it happened, I can't find any proof.

Iran Scam

There's a pretty good chance that the Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld Iraq folly is going to look like peanuts next to the looking-more-than-likely Trump/Bolton/Pompeo Iranian adventure.

Love Camp 7 - Huxley in Hollywood (1990 Bowlmor)

A band named after a 60's B-movie about prostitutes in a Nazi prison singing about Aldous Huxley doing LSD. I bought this thinking it was the other LC7, the Australian one, but I still found this interesting.

Shoegazer - If Combination Wins (1994 Fidotrust)

I'm on record as naming Shoegazer's Intoxicated Birthday Lies (1997) as the best 90's album you've never heard of, and I stand by that assessment. This sophomore 7" from 1994, however, is not that great, kinda of bad, even (though the last half of "Windblower" is kinda rad). However, this is a great document to show how a young raw band can find it's sea legs and voice and do something amazing in a few short years.
