Model Citizen - Angry America (1998 Butterface Records)
Late 90's San Diego band, who I actually know nothing about. Nada. Google is of no help. Kind of strange, because this ain't bad. Strong Bad Religion influence. If you have any backstory on this band, please share in the comments.
This band was passed around quite a bit when I went to Poway High in San Diego back in 2000 (we listened to a lot of upcoming So. Cal. punk bands in the late 90's). Unfortunately they were so unknown it was hard to even find any shows or information about them even back then from what I remember. Which is a shame because they are a fantastic blend of Bad Religion meets Pennywise meets SNFU.
They supposedly have 2 albums but I have yet to find their other one. Angry America is the only one we listened to growing up. And as mentioned, any information about them will probably be extremely hard to find (as I have even scoured the internet about them, whether they moved on to other bands (especially the vocalist who was outstanding) or their other album).
try Mayday! Mayday! on itunes. They released 3 full lengths "angry america", "will we go away" and "hurry up and bite" all 3 are pretty darn good. Wonder whatever happened to these guys.
never heard of them before, but i looked them up and their albums pop up on amazon and some other streaming/download sites under the name "mayday! mayday!"
Great find Neal and thank you! It looks like they changed their name to Mayday! Mayday! at some point and you can find their albums on the major music sites under that band name (albeit with different album covers as well).
Their other albums are a little different, still pretty good though.
MODEL CITIZEN: Info from INTERPUNK We're a 4 piece punk band from North County San Diego called Model Citizen. We've been playing together for quite a while, and have continuously grown in both style and substance. We started out as a backyard band playing parties for friends, and have turned into a serious force in the North County punk scene. As Model Citizen, we have released several demos and 2 full-length albums. We plan on promoting our second album heavily in hopes of being noticed by a good independent punk label, and then getting signed. To accomplish our promotional efforts we have teamed with a manager who is working hard to book shows in Southern California and the surrounding areas. We are also putting together a merchandise collection, and working with artists to generate new designs for stickers, shirts, posters, and various other promotional gear. We are hoping to book tours opening for various well-known punk acts to help get our name and our message to the people. We know that over the past years of playing we have become a better band, and through our experiences, better friends. Unfortunately, three of the band members unexpectedly lost their fathers recently, but that has strengthened the bond within the band, and has driven us to succeed. We are fully dedicated to the task of bringing our music to the masses, because we want to share our love for our music, our experience, and our good times with as many people as possible.
