pud - i was a teenage rancor (1996 recess)

Pud were from Bainbridge Island, WA, formed from the ashes of The Rickets, and just slayed. English influences abound. An absolute overlooked gem. Download this. Just trust me.

  2. You Can Take My Gun (But First You Must Call Me Papa)
  3. Ragna Rock N' Roll

  1. again with the timing, dude.

less than a week ago i ripped the two Hot Curly Weenie cd's for a friend and gave them a listen for old time's sake. there were a few songs that i didn't recognize, but stuck out as great. every time i checked the listing to see which band it was, PUD was the answer.

dunno how i missed them before, but thanks for this.

  2. Pretty sure one of those comps has "Breakout", which despite (or maybe because of?) its Laverne & Shirley-esque chorus, is an amazing song.

  3. I Was A Teenage Teenager11:52

Pud ruled. Especially if you were a teenager during their reign (cuz it was exactly the type of band you wished your crappy high school punk band would sound like)... Hey there kids, aye aye maties, I wish I was livin' in the 1980's...

Gavin, Pud's impossibly deep-throated (that doesn't read well) singer, now sings in a falsetto for California folk revival band Winter Flowers -- the complete opposite of Pud in just about every way. I like 'em though, but I'm gay like that...

I asked you about a possible upload of The Mute-Ants - Terrible Tunes record a month or so ago. You didn't have it, but the Gods of the internet (sergey and larry?) heard my request and put a link up here: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?gv3hnui3itk90o0

Check it out. It's as fun 6f a record as I remember, especially the '77 type tunes (Tommy, Rather Be Dead, Shut Your Face, Bored With The City)...

Oh, and as far as Hot Curly Weenie goes "Eat A Bowl of Fuck" by The Quincy Punx was mine and my friend's official theme song in '96... replaced by "Free Cocaine" by The Dwarves the following year (thanks Recess!)...

  4. Thanks for the Mute-Ants link!

I think that Pud was one of the bands at the Recess Needles And Pins festival in Shasta. How do I not remember this? Getting old sucks.

    1. Just came across this, but, yes, we played at the Needles and Pins festival. I just uploaded to Bandcamp an early demo of Pud's from 1994 (before Peter and I were in the band). Some songs are quite different, but some of it resembles the "Rancor" sound: https://pudmusic1.bandcamp.com/releases

  5. PUD are my cousins. Our parents grew up together on the Island. I loved going to their shows in the back of the Capital Theater in Oly.
