Has anyone had stuff removed from MediaFire because of copyright claims by Muso.com? I just got one for the Opposition seven inch I posted a while back. If someone from that band wants it down, I have no problem. But I don't think that's the case. On YouTube I've had takedowns on some of the most obscure stuff ever, so I'm paranoid that there are copyright cowboys out there flagging anything and everything, regardless if the actual copyright owners give a shit.
did mediafire or muso let you know they were taking down your link?
ReplyDeletei've never had something taken down, but i have heard of robo-notifications, where the muso and muso-similar companies will just blanket user-submitted content with takedown demands without paying mind to what the actual content is, only go through the stack of taken down items to see what's lawsuit worthy later.
unfortunately, the way the DMCA is written, if someone asks to take something down, youtube et al must comply and leave the sorting out of what's legit and what's not up to the user and the muso's to figure out.
in other words, it really really sucks.
sopa hard at work.
