Old Grandad

Almost nine years after I downloaded it from Cosmic Hearse, I finally listed to Old Grandad's Vol. 666. Holy shit! I'm so stupid. I like this so much already, I'd probably make it my personal God if I were a stoner. Monster Magnet, dead horse, and the Melvins in a blender.

I'm assuming this is widely available, but if not, and there's interest, request it and I'll post.

Vol. LIII of the K Records International Pop Underground series. Posted another record by them not too long ago. While I do dig the snotty punk rock presented here, the best thing about the Rickets was that PUD was one of the bands that rose out of their ashes, and PUD rules.

Extremely noisy, sludgy comp (yes, that description includes the Your Mother track). Got this for the Yogurt track, but the Godstomper, Cavity and Shut The Fuck Up are bruisers. If you like it ugly, you need this.

The World's In Shreds Volume Five: New Bands (1991 Shredder Records)

Out of these three bands, only KPF stuck around after 1991. West Virginia's Ice Fan remind me of a mishmash of  the poppier elements of early 90's Lookout and Cruz Records bands, Indiana's Dryrot up the tempo a bit with some straightforward punk (and the best song here IMO), and California's KPF are, well, KPF.

Chixdiggit - Best Hung Carrot In The Fridge EP (1995 Lance Rock Records)

I don't talk about Chixdiggit a lot, but the fact is they are in my all-time top 5, and for live shows, top 2 (them and Avail depending on if the measure is adrenaline or joy). There's just not a band that can put a smile on my face like them (The Bananas come closest). This is almost the first thing they did (if anyone has the Humped tape, please get it to me!).

Sinkhole - Donkey EP (1995 Ringing Ear Records)

Possibly my favorite Sinkhole 7". Being the mid-90's, I'm sure the Eddie Money cover was done ironically, but in yet other sign of my middle-aged bonafides, I'm thinking that's a legit fucking good song, even if Mr. Money has always kind of freaked me out.
