netflix

What? You can't stream as many movies as you want AND get movies shipped to you and return shipping paid for $9.99? You actually have to pay seperately for these services? THE HORROR.

Honestly, I do not understand the outrage at Netflix. That $9.99 streaming plus DVD's deals was too good to be true, and it was just a matter of time before it ended. There are some truly evil companies coughNEWSCORPORATIONcough, Netflix is not one of them. Quit yer snivelin'.

  1. Considering that they have doubled the cost in about 2 years time, I can certainly understand the complaining. I'll be dumping my subscription in September when the price goes up (and coincidentally when the fall TV line-up starts up again).

In my opinion, they should have continued to nudge the service cost up gradually, rather than $1 last year, and $7 this year. Plus the September timing makes it easy to live without the service for a while. Not a good business decision or timing in my opinion.

Also consider that cable still rules the TV landscape. Too many exclusive deals (in my case, baseball, Nickelodeon & Disney just to name a few). Plus Comcast now has a streaming offering that they throw in with most basic cable packages now.

That said, your point is spot on. They have been essentially giving away the streaming for some time now, so splitting it off and making a couple bucks more, is the next natural step. My complaint isn't that its happening...its the timing and execution that upsets me.

  2. I guess the larger point is that the DVD is on the way to being dead. Streaming will be how most content is delivered sooner rather than later. To me, this is just a huge nudge for people to just switch to streaming only. The selections aren't great at the moment, but I'm hoping expanding streaming service is a large part of why Netflix chose to do this.
