Maim That Tune #2

So the thing I hate about these homemade comps is I'm aggregating stuff with various bitrates and sound levels. I use MP3Gain to try to get some consistency, but I honestly don't hear much difference in levels after processing. Without re-encoding anything, does anyone have any solutions so I'm not torturing you with LOUD quiet LOUD LOUD quiet songs? ?

Anyways, here's some bands I've been listening to this week.

- Claw Hammer - Vigil Smile
- Kelley Stoltz - Underwater's Where the Action Is
- Nar - Hi, We're Nar / I Like Times
- Fourth Rotor - Price Of Buying
- Fitz Of Depression - Form A Line
- J. Gls Bnd - Piss On The Wall
- The Dopamines - Expect the Worst
- Sick Of It All - My Life
- Floodgate - At Rest
- The Way - My City Goes Down
- Noothgrush - Darell's Porno Song
- The Aquabats - Super Rad
- The Broadways - What Happened?
- Puffball - Back On The Sauce
- Modern Machines - I Are Ropeless
- Lemuria - Rough Draft
- Testament - P.C.
- Side By Side - Backfire
- Taste Of Fear - Ladders Fall
- Skrupel - Santa Racist

  1. It's an annoying problem. When i can, i listen to comps like this on itunes, which has a playback feature that automatically equalizes the volume between songs (more or less). Other than that, i got nothing. Great playlist though.

  2. THIS is the reason I am moving away from mp3 encoded files. Between the bit stuffing, and the erratic volume encoding, I've moved on to FLAC files exclusively. At the very least, you can decode the FLAC to a proper losless WAV file and, using a digital audio workstation, apply your ideal volume levels and you are free to re-encode back to mp3 or flac with no penalty. It is tons of work, but I am compelled to do it.
