everready - getting smarter (1993 silver girl)

(This was the first rip that I ever posted, and back then I wasn't uploading to MediaFire account. So I'm fixing that with a re-post.)

San Diego drunk punks Everready released a bunch of good albums and one, imho, great album (Reinheitsgebot) in the 1990's.

Soundwise, think sloppy Green Day, drunk. Sloppy drunk.

This is their first thing ever, I believe. Could be wrong. Released on Silver Girl Records in 1993.

  1. so awesome. this band is so mind boggling underrated.

this is the first thing they ever put out on vinyl, but they did have a demo tape that came out before it. i found that on ebay, bid on it, and the dude who sold it turned out to be the silver girl record label guy. he had a whole folder of reviews from zines of this record, and other random label stuff, including some original photographs, one of which wound up being used for the cover of this record.

such a great band. fitting that this would be your first post ever.

  2. Do you have a rip of the demo tape? Holy crap that would be awesom to have.

  3. i don't. i've got a handful of cassettes that i'm 98% sure have music that never came out on any other format, so i need to rip them.

you'll be the first to know.

oh, i also have another "album" they recorded and never released. davey tiltwheel gave me the only copy of the master cd for their "live in japan" record. it actually was recorded live in japan, and has one or two songs not on any other albums or singles.

i'll up that for you soon. davey gave me permission to share it, press it, do whatever, so long as i didn't lose it.

thinking about the songs on the live cd and the demo tape and all their records makes me shake my head and wonder why this band isn't huge. i just don't get it.

Thanks a lot for this and the Girl 7"... I hope one of these days someone is able to put all of Everready's singles, splits, b-sides, demos and comp tracks in one place (a legit release would be killer)...

I swear this band released more 7"'s in its heyday than any other punk band from that era... It seemed like every weeek their would be a new one out on some label that nobody had ever heard of...

  6. Melody,

I've considered putting them all together into a single release. I don't even know that I have everything they put out. I do have most of it, though. It seems like everytime I decide that I have all of it, I learn of something else.

    Here's what I know about/have:

Fairplay CD on Liquid Meat and LP on Cool Guy Records--the LP has 5 bonus tracks that I don't know were ever released anywhere else.

Reinheitsgebot CD--on Liquid Meat, i think.I don't know that this has ever been released on CD.

El Vato Loco CD and LP--on Cool Guy Records

Festavus for the Restavus on CD. I think it's on Cool Guy Records. Dunno that this ever came out on LP.

Getting Smarter 7"-on silver girl records

All time low 7"--don't remember the label, but this shows up on ebay enough for me to consider buying them all to redistribute.

Fig Dish split 7"--also on liquid meat

Xanadu comp--a bunch of bands doing the socal pop punk/skate punk thing, none of them as good as Everready

Volume Comp--I believe this might be Liquid Meat Records' first release ever. Everready does 4 songs, including a killer cover of "Boy's Don't Cry." The only two copies of this cd I've ever seen have been ones that I owned. I lost the first, and was given the second upon mentioning it.

Punk Sucks on Liberation Records--the first time I ever heard the band. The song is Fairplay, and is the same recording as the song as released on the full length of the same name.

Rational Inquirer Comp-I Won't be a Soldier--Same recording as the one on El Vato Loco.

Girl 7"--two songs unreleased anywhere else, so far as i can tell. On Skene! Records

Kalifornia 7"--originally released on Liquid Meat, but was rereleased on mutant pop with new cover artwork. has alternate recordings of songs released on full lengths.

Not so Sunny Day in Dodge City--alternate/earlier? recordings also released/later? on Reinheitsgebot. Released on Campground Records.

Pogo Strut Slam Swivel and Mosh comp. Don't remember the label, but it's an ok comp similar to many other socal skate/pop punk ones from the same time. The song is "Stuck on an Island" and I don't think it's been released anywhere else. It's a good one.

A complilation 7"called "Emergency Broadcast Systems, Volume 3", which also featured Radon. The Everready track is called "Untitled Hip-Hop Slam Jam" and features Brian doing some pretty uncomfortable rapping. Worth having for the completist, but pretty unlistenable.

The Fairplay demo tape. It's very rough and early versions of the same songs--in the same order--as the Fairplay full length. I believe they're different recordings altogether, not just remastered. I don't recall what label, if any, this was on.

Live in Japan--Was given the master cd by Davey Tiltwheel, like I mentioned in the earlier post. It has one or two unreleased elsewhere songs.

I think that's it. If anyone reading this knows anything else the band has put out, I'm interested.

I'm in touch with Davey Tiltwheel, who still talks to and plays with Brian Everready, but I dunno that they'll be releasing anythign else anytime soon. They do live in San Diego/Escondido still, an area of the country I visit several times per year thanks to family being there, so maybe I'll be able to meet Brian someday and ask him for the official discography and possibly some lyrics. I've always wondered what the words to "At the Che" were.

  7. Josh. You gotta do this. You will be the hero of the internet.

I have all the CD's and the Volume comp, and some of the other comps. Need that All Time Low EP and Fig Dish EP.
